The poster "Diefool" has figured out how to do a RAID0 setup with a regular Dell laptop, with 2 drives. His, and others, posted drive speeds are phenomenal.
It is very simple and requires no extra software, just 2 drives (and you can get PATA or SATA drive caddies to go in the DVD drive slot from ebay etc)

Uh... by "ordinary" laptops you mean 17"+ laptops with slots for 2 hard drives. Yeah, in that case, I wouldn't think there would be anything too hard about that.
As far as putting a hard drive in the DVD slot... as far as I know, that mainly works with business laptops that have a modular drive bay (Latitude, Thinkpad, etc.) and I really don't know whether RAID would work with that as one of the drives... it might. -
Man your some happy eh? Cheer up.
He's already got it working, read the thread, and the drive bay adapters work with any laptop that has a removable optical drive, not just 17"
The newer larger notebooks that come pre-configured with RAID0 have the 2nd drive in the chassis in addition to the otipical drivebay - I guess thats where your coming from.
He figured out the hack to do it for normal laptops with a simple regedit, which is excellent.
(lots of people use 2 drives already for extra storage and easy backups, the adapters are cheap- just need to know which one fits your brand of laptop)
