This should increase your internet confirmation and speed when you boot up your pc and use it throughout.
To get there.
1. Click the Start button, right-click Network, and then select Properties.
2. On the side menu, click Manage network connections. This will show a list of all the network devices installed on your computer.
3. Right-click any of the devices and select Properties. This will bring up a list of the protocols installed as well as active on your adapter. The protocols that are installed but are not active are indicated by the absence of a check in the box.
For optimal speed configuration, disable all protocols except for Internet Protocol Version 4(As the picture shows). Note, however, that by doing so you will no longer be able to share or access shared files and resources, and certain programs and features that rely on the other protocols may not work. But fo the average user, unchecking them all except for PV4 is fine.
Breakdown:
Client for Microsoft Networks-Used to access other shared resources on your local network running the File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks protocol.
QOS Packet Scheduler-Used to provide traffic management on your network for applications that support the protocol.
File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks-Used to share your printer and files on your computer with other computers on your local network.
Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)-New version of the IPv4 protocol that is not very widespread. Unless you are connected to an IPv6 network (99% of you are not), you can safely disable this protocol.
Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)-Primary network communication protocol. Do not disable this protocol.
Link Layer Topology Discovery Mapper I/O Driver-Used to discover other computers connected to your local network.
Link Layer Topology Responder-Used to identify your computer to other computers connected to your local network.

Will this also increase internet speed? -

Even better is to go Start -> Run -> services.msc and disable the Workstation service. Doing this allowed my Wifi card to connect to my router nearly instantaneously after boot up. The wireless networking tray icon won't show you are connected until about 5 seconds after startup but you can start using the web even before the tray icon updates to show you are connected.
The Workstation service is used for networking environments, such as shared files and shared printers. You don't need it for a home environment unless you do file sharing or have a network printer. -

And oh yea, if you DL stuff from torrents, don't uncheck QoS Packet Scheduler. It will still DL, but not at fast as it could.

Hello McGrady,
Can I share mine?
Now, I am surfing through HSDPA modem 'cause i'm on a trip. Sometimes it goes to 2G so Internet Tweak help much.
1. Simple Ways to Tweak your Network and Internet Connections- Part 1
2. Simple Ways to Tweak your Network and Internet Connections- Part 2
3. Laptop Position will help
4. If you are using wifi. A simple Hack will do. Put a metal parabolic shaped or anything metal behind the wifi Tx. Or if your wifi is integrated in the laptop, put your laptop behind any metal directed to the router position.
I'll published some pictures later...
5. Time will help, If you are using 3G, 2G or HSDPA modem, using internet during peak hour will slow you down.
I'll add more... Soon.
That's it! -
Wow Lawrence you must spend a lot of time tweaking.
-
Let's get some benchmarks. I don't want to try this just yet.
-
Nice job, my browser seemed to get a bit more responsive.
-
Eh... placebo?
-
-
-
I'm a little confused
are these tweaks to make the internet faster or the connection to the internet faster at start-up?
-
BTW, here's a DIY router antenna range extender hack video

Should be labeled "Guide to make internet not-work". LOL!. Anyhow, i followed the guide, and my internet couldn't find an ip-adress, so i reset the settings

OK I've tried it for a few hours no problems yet. Internet speed seems to be stable, I noticed a bit of speed improvement -
I don't notice any download speed improvements but I definitely notice that the computer connects right away on wifi after bootup if Workstation is disabled. Otherwise, it takes like 10 seconds for it to connect. -
Recent weeks, I tried to enhance wifi connections via reflectors.
*Any metal will do. Boost your internet connection and also
CELLPHONE signals too... Anyway... Please wait guys...
Need more time for documentations...
I know Telecom Engineers will make some debate
Don't worry i'm a license Telecom/Comm. Engineer too. -
ya you can share yours. anyone feel free to add your internet tweaks.
-
now my laptop has faster connection speed and surfing speed, +rep!
-
-
Hope everyone applying this tweak gets the "placebo" effect.
-
test it then if you dont believe -
This is what I found out at another forum
How to Change or Disable the QoS Reserved Bandwidth Limit in Vista
Placebo?
-
The wi-fi is recognized faster on my laptop. I guess disabling the other protocols means only the most common protocol is used and Vista doesn't have to look for others. QoS I believe is used for internet phones such as Skype and others.
-
The QoS tweak does nothing. This has already been established. Look it up on google.
-
Will this affect your laptop when its looking for a wifi connection in some other place besides your home?
-
-
On my wireless N router it has the QoS option to share connections with other devices.. "Intelligent QoS technology prioritizes both wired and wireless Internet traffic to enable enhanced gaming and phone calling (VoIP) experience".
Since I don't use VoIP or online interactive gaming it's safe for me to disable this feature on the laptop. But I do have it activated on my router.
