I prefer my desktop to be clear of icons, including the Recycle Bin. However, I still need its functionality to be convenient, so I came across this. Hopefully, some of you are on my boat and prefer this.![]()

Has anyone been able to use large icons but keep the taskbar the same height?
For some reason whenever i select use large icons it makes the icon larger than the other icons on the taskbar -

Yep, this was the first "tweak" I applied to W7 on both my desktop and laptop.

Fences! FTW. I love this app. It sets up little "corrals" for icons on your desktop. I have one for work in process, one for music, one for development work, one for movies etc. These corrals are scrollable within each corral. But the best part is you can double click the desktop and ALL the corrals and un-corraled icons hide. Double click again and they all come back. You can control specific corrals and/or icons to NEVER hide. Did I say how much I LOVE this app? Oh and it's free! http://www.stardock.com/products/fences/ I like an empty desktop as well, but also like the ability to use the icons there. I had been using the Sysinternals Windows app which gives you four virtual desktops. I'd keep one with the desktop items hidden and one without. But Fences makes that so much easier.
Option #2, a right click on any file shows a delete option. So why do you even need the recycle bin icon? Just sayin'...

I already have a custom/personal taskbar created where I recreated the 'show desktop' icon. ALl I did was drag n drop the trash bin on to my personal bar. Took all of 5 seconds.

Thanks for this, worked like a charm. But I see what you mean with the pinned icons not sitting flush along the bottom of the screen when the recycle bin is set to large. But when the view is set to "small"....it's too small. So for now, I'll deal with it. But looks nice sitting there next to my clock, now I don't need to minimize windows to view or empty it. Another tip below.......
On another note, I wanted an easy fast way to delete contents of the recycle bin, so I found a small freeware app called AutoHotkey, and found a script online to create a shortcut of "Alt + X" to empty it. Works good for anyone else that likes the option to empty it without the confirmation of "Are you sure"......I'm sure others already know about this, but for the one's that don't, thought I'd share. -

Thanks for this! Any tweak to bring a classic start menu? I really like using that.
