My notebook HD(sig) is 4200, if it was a 7200 or higher ...would that make file transfers between Partitions faster?

I'm talking about large transfers like over 3GB's.

I'm transfering all my Music, Pics, Vids, and some documents thats loacated on two OS Partitions to a Partition thats will serve for the purpose of storage. So far the transfer is speed doesn't bother me much. It took 20min for 12gb of music.

Just curious, but no problem with anything.

    4200 is pretty slow..
if you upgrade to 5400 you will see a lot faster, 7200 even more, but the 7200 will drink your battery like you with a small coke's cup... and they are very expensive and hard to find (i was searching for one 100G but i didn't find)

It'll use a little more battery, but nothing significant. The system in my sig gets similar battery times with 7200/5400 HDD's.

Gatordude, where did you find the 7200 rpm?
i'm trying to get it but in china seems very hard to find, and most of the US e-shops don't sell to international credit cards (mine is italian, i work in china)

I upgraded my hard drive in my inspiron 8600 from a 4200 to a 5400 rpm and it was significantly faster in all respects. I briefly had a western digital 5400 in it and now it has a hitachi 5400 rpm. The western digital was a better performer.

Would like a 200GB 7200rpm. If they actually have that Notebook drive.

What else in a HD should I look for in speed. I know that Desktop HD's have RAID SATA etc:<<< I never really cared or took the time to figure out what that means. And does HD Speed affect Web Browsing?

Battery Life is not a factor, as I rarley use it without the AC.
