In Vista, whenever i hook up my notebook with my lcd through hdmi to watch hi-def movies, i always get video and audio on the lcd.
Ever since i installed windows 7, i only get video but no audio on my lcd. on checking the realtek hdmi audio settings, i see hdcp: not supported. Is this a general problem or is it just my notebook.

Have you checked Asus for Windows 7 drivers for your laptop? You might need actual drivers from Asus to get this fixed, and not just use what Win 7 provides during the install process.

as much as i know, there are no windows 7 drivers yet for any of their notebooks

maybe i'll just wait till the drivers start pouring out. if anyone has a solution to this problem, please let me know.

I had the same problems on my XPS M1330 when I looked at it after reading your post. Granted, I have a SigmaTel codec and not the Realtek that you have, but here's what I was able to do to fix it:
Download latest Windows Vista drivers from Realtek ( http://www.realtek.com.tw)
Extract the drivers, but DON'T run the setup.exe file
Go to Device Manager and update your driver manually by having Windows search the folder where you extracted them
Reboot
Check your audio properties again and they should be different. Try connecting your HDMI cable again and see if it works, mine did.
Once the drivers have been updated, you may be able to run the setup.exe from the drivers you downloaded so you can get all the jack sensing and such from the application to manage your sound card.
