My notebooks Samsung HDD is failing according to Windows. When I boot I get a big S.M.A.R.T. Warning telling me so as well. I do annual backups to an external off-site HDD and another PC. I want to do one last major backup of everything important so I can send my notebooks HDD off to get replaced. But I'm worried that its possible I may be backing up files which may be corrupt somehow.

Lets say I backup my Digital Pictures Folder from my notebooks bad HDD onto an external one which is fine. Are there any programs I can use which can look at those files and confirm they are alright?

    Thank You!

I suppose you can try to run checkdisc but that checks for corrupt file on the drive its running... and repairs errors.

I don't think you get software that will tell you that all files are "OK" - so if you are worried just make the backup you create a completely new one away from the old one.,

If it's failing, I'd backup ASAP and then worry about corruption. No point in running the bad drive more than you have to...
