    HDD frozen

    I have a gateway mx6421. I was trying to restore it back to factory setting and now in the BIOS it say HDD frozen and in F10 BOOT reads no OS found?? What is a way I can solve this problem? I tried to reinstall windows xp with a disc and that says hard drive can't be found??? Im confused. Please help!!!

    If you do a cold boot and enter the BIOS, does it still show the HDD as 'frozen' or 'clear'?
    Can you reset the BIOS settings to default?

    If you have tired what Baserk said and it still fails, do you have another drive you can swap in for testing (to rule out a mother board or connector issue)?
    I would also try to reseat the hard drive and clean all connectors. If this is the original hard drive (I read it came with a 4200 RPM drive) it may well be 'dead'.
