Anyone know of one? I'm on 7 but I'm sure one for Vista would work as well.

There's a gadget that uses HWmonitor. Search for "hwmonitor sidebar" on google and you'll find it.

Note that it's not just install and use, you will have to do some setup stuff both on HWmonitor and on the gadget itself.

Guess it's not forward compatible with Windows 7. :(

Try the O&O Diskstat gadget. I can confirm it runs on Windows 7 x64. Sadly it's not reading the temp off my WD Scorpio Black. :( Perhaps you might have better luck?

(It's not a gadget, but Speccy from Piriform can provide lots of diagnostic info, including temps on HDD, GPU and CPU. There is a no-install portable version too.)

The error you have there is not because of the program, more because it cannot find the installer. If you save it, then run it, it should be fine.

I have it working fine on my Windows 7 32bit install...

    That's what I was doing. Maybe it's because I'm on 64-bit.

This is the solution I ended up going with. Not all that elegant, but it works.
