So, when I use a HDMI cable to connect my laptop to an external monitor, the screen will go black and I will lose sound for 2 seconds or so once within the first 10 minutes of usage. Then it's usually fine.

Any idea what's up? Dodgy cable most likely or something else?

Which laptop is this happening on? Your asking but not saying what laptop this happens on? Also did you check your cable ends and make sure they were at least good quality cable?

Imagined most people would just assume it's the one in my sig.

Haven't checked the cable ends. I'll have a look and see. Can't imagine they're not OK but you never know.

I had this issue with a cheap cable; though it happened more than once, but very rarely did it occur. (Perhaps 4-5 times in a 24hr period)

The remedy for me was a new cable.

Had a feeling that was the case. I'll switch it out and see. It's not a problem usually but some games don't like the signal getting cut and will require a restart as the image just won't reappear (hey there DA:I) .
