    Going nuts here!

New laptop (Acer w/ win 7) to replace my Compaq (vista) that took a dump

Wifes Comaq and sons Compaq can print to network printer Canon MP530 attached to Desktop in basement (Sony Vaio - OS win xp)

Acer will not access printer - connects to the home network and internet fine - all computers on same Workgroup but when I go to add network printer the Acer does not even show any available printers.

Tried \\vaio\canon mp530 etc. nothing seems to work

Acer customer service said to call them for assistance - at $3 per min.!!!!!!

I had this trouble too, infact, no printer could access it via network, and in the end, I gave up on it. What OS's are the other Compaq's running?

Does the printer have Windows 7 compatible drivers? If not, you may be SOL.

Yeah I'd check drivers first too. normally while connecting to a network printer, Windows will try and locate drivers either on the printer server or the internet.
