The Notebook Review forums were hosted by TechTarget, who shut down them down on January 31, 2022. This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

This is a repeat of a thread I posted in the PDA forums, as I'm not getting much in the way of answers there. Since it really is a laptop question, I'm hoping someone here has more answers. Here's the original thread I posted over there.

    My first post is:
Then, after some further investigation, I posted:
While I was writing this post here on this forum, I got a brief reply from another user who admits to not being well versed in XP or Vista with a couple of links:
Does anyone here who is at least semi well versed in XP and Vista have any other suggestions. The quickest solution for me would be to copy the missing files from my XP desktop and paste them into the same folders on my Vista laptop, if that would work. But, again, I don't know enough about what dll files do as they install to know if they write things in themselves that customize them to the specific system they are installed on. If that is the case, a copy from one machine to the other probably won't work.

    Thanks,
    Christina

Better protocol would have been to ask the mods to move the thread for you; as you've now double-posted, the second-best would be to ask the mods to delete your original thread, or merge it with this thread.
