I am having trouble uninstalling Windows Vista Beta from my computer. The trial is due to expire today and I am afraid that once it expires I will not be able to use Windows XP. I tried to reinstall Windows XP again over Vista but it is not available due to compatibility issues. It tells me that a more recent version of windows is installed (Vista).
Does anyone know how to resolve this? Thanks

if its not listed on add/remove programs its not removable the only thing you can do is either reinstall xp by booting to cd and hoping it will let you do a repair install or format and start over, that is what happens when you play wiyh beta software and do not have a partition image of your os of choice
    sorry no good news

The only way to uninstall an Operating System is to format. Which is why it was strongly recommended to partition your HD and dual boot XP and Vista before installing Vista.

Make sure the bios first boot device is cd/dvd. Then stick in the Windows XP CD and hit the key when it tells you on the screen.

Follow the instructions. You have options to delete partitions, format drive etc during xp installation. Since you don't mind losing any of the data I would advise a fresh install by completely deleting the vista partition and installing winxp. Follow the instructions on the screen carefully. It will automatically create a partition and ask you to format it either with FAT32 or NTFS for windows xp.

Technically, just reinstalling (Or making a repair install) of XP will work just as well. The nice thing about OS'es is that they don't interact at all. So all that is needed to get rid of Vista is:
1: Overwrite the boot loader. That will remove Vista from the startup menu, and XP will start as normal.
2: Delete Vista's folders and files.

No need to format or anything like that.

Simple as that. Regular apps have to be uninstalled because they may otherwise leave a lot of junk in the registry, in the start menu or anywhere else. An OS does none of that, so you don't need to uninstall it, just overwrite it.
