The Volume of C and D of my laptop are 75GB and 68GB respectively.

I have disable pagefile and deleted all the restore points, turned off system restore as well, but still cannot shrink the volume of my C more than 29GB..

Even though I shrink the volume of C to 46GB according to the size of available shrink space, I cannot extend the volume of D using the unallocated space(the option is grey out). Any help?

And what's the 6.84GB showing in my attached pictures? Recovery file?

    My laptop is Asus W7S.

    Thanks.. :)

The real problem is that you are using a crap partition shrinker program...Vista. I know I know...I sound mean...but it is true. Download and run GParted Live CD or a similar tool to do the work and you'll be much happier with the result.

I agree with Greg. That's what I thought when I read the title.

There are specialized programs built only for partitioning that will give you more features/better results

I was just going to ask a similar question. I want to make one partition on my hard drive to store stock photos. However, when I follow the instructions in Vista Disk Management it says to "right-click an unallocated region on your hard disk, and then click New Simple Volume." Well, I see no unallocated region. Where do I access the unallocated region?

I have 168 GB free on my hard drive. I really don't want to buy a separate program. This is the only partition I'll ever make.

Turn hibernation off, delete hiber.sys and page.sys from your C directory if they are still there.
Then disable the error boot log.
Download the Perfect Disk 8 30 days demo and run the system files defrag. It will ask you to reboot in order to defrag the remaning files.

Then, and only then, shrink at will.

Oh yes, to extend the last partition, I'd rather copy its 10 GB into C: or a second primary partition right after C: (you could use it for OS data or for another OS later), then I would remove D and recreate the extended partition with the correct size and placement.
