OK so i got a new laptop (gateway p-7811) but it came with a bunch of bloatwares. Peopel told me to do a clean reinstall of Vista so there will be nothing there. I put in the OS CD they provided me with in the box and i went through the process( even tho im a total noob ) I think i installed vista on the wrong partition( wats that?) so now i got 2 operatng system. When i turn on the computer theres a choice of "windows vista home premium" and on the bottom "windows vista home premium" THe first is the new OS i installed its clean with nothing there. ANd the second one is the one with alot of bloatware. How do i uninstall/delete/remove that second one????

    Don't panic, you didn't break anything :).

I think all you really have to do is delete the "Windows" folder that's on the wrong partition, although I've never actually done it that way. Alternatively, if you boot into the install disk, then go into Custom Installation, you get some drive options (you have to click on "drive options", I think). From there you can format drives (which deletes all content of whatever partition you want, including the OS). However, if it's a backup partition, it may not be wise to do that.

It sounds to me like you didn't even format the original partition where you wanted to reinstall the OS. And well, that's the whole point... delete all the data off of your drive, then install the OS clean. Make sure to format the partition of your ORIGINAL drive when/if you try again :).

Okay, here's what you do step-by-step:

    To delete:
Go to the Start Menu, and click on "Computer". You should see two "hard drives" (partitions, really). One should be C: and the other should be another letter, probably D:. You PROBABLY installed the "wrong OS" on the D: Drive. Double click on that, and you just delete the "Windows" folder there. This SHOULD work, but I'm not 100% sure. Maybe someone else here can shed some light on this? And do you know what this partition is there for? Is it there for backup?

To reinstall OS (preferably after having deleted the "wrong OS"):
    1. Boot from install DVD
    2. Choose language, and click on "Install Now"
    3. Agree to the terms, then go to "Custom (Advanced)"
    4. Click on "Drive options (advanced)"
    5. Highlight your C: drive (the partition where Windows SHOULD be), and click on "Format"
    6. Highlight your C: drive and hit "install".
    7. Insert your drivers CD and reinstall everything sans bloatware.
    8. Look at how much faster your computer runs now.

EDIT: Oh wait, I just reread what you typed in originally. You want to delete the original Windows and keep the one you just installed? I guess you could just follow the instructions above up to number 5. What's the size of the partition that the new installation is on?

Probally the easiest thing to do now, is to delete both partitions and format and do a clean install again. Just boot from the DVD and install then i will ask you where then you do Advance and it will give you the options to delete both.
    Back up your data tho

Alright, let's just do what Knightendo suggests. Go ahead and follow my reinstallation guide from 1-3. Then, do this:
    1. Highlight the first partition, and click delete.
    2. Repeat for the other partition.
    3. Hit "New" and when it asks you for the size, just hit "OK". It should automatically take up as much space as possible.
    4. Follow steps 6 and on from my little guide.

If you have anything important on your laptop, now would be a good time to put it on a DVD or flash drive, like Knightendo said.

Ok I would like to say this because no one has said it yet.

1st: Your D drive Before you put on the wrong OS. That was a Recovery Drive. If I am right there is no way to get it back. (You can still use other programs like Norton Ghost, etc..)

2nd: You didn't kill your computer you can have 2 or more OS on your computer.

    -----------------------------------

What to do; (Just 1 OS and have a Clean install)
Do what these guys said. Just do a Clean install.

    1) Put back in your CD (Clean install of the OS) and when you get to a window like
    [IMG]
Click on ( Drive option (advance) )

    2) Then when you get to this window, You want to Delete Both Partitions.
So you should be deleting "Disk0 and Disk1" (That what they should be)

    3) When you have Deleted the 2 partitions, then you click on New and pick what size you want your New Partition to be.

I suggest if you want a Easy step-by-step how to install Vista Here you go. Its a good site.

    Hope this Helps
