This is really stupid of me, but I set the Account Lockout Policy to 5 times, and I typed my password wrong in the dark, and now I'm locked out!

I can wait for awhile, but I'm afraid I'll be locked out indefinitely!!!!!

What I want to know is: how long is the default Vista lockout time?

Another thing: after I locked myself out, I tried clicking the switch user thing, and saw another user called "Other User," which wasn't there before???

Is this because Vista realized I only had one account, and would therefore be indefinitely locked out??? Is this the "hidden administrator account" I've heard about??

    Please help me!!!

If nothing else, can I reset my password by removing the HD, or something in the BIOS???

Note: I'm not asking to bypass security measures, I just want to be able to access my OS. If worst comes to worst, I can transfer my stuff off in Puppy Linux, and then re-install.....but first I'd like to know my options!

This is my hour of need.....please......

EDIT: WAIT, I JUST LOGGED IN! THE ACCOUNT DURATION EXPIRED! NEVER MIND....

I'm pretty sure vista wouldn't have kept you locked out forever. Knowing Microsoft it was probably a 30 second lock.

you could probally log into safe mode as administrator and change you settings there if you had to.

You can disable the password in the BIOS.

Really? So if i forgot my password all i have to do is just go into the BIOS and disable it? (If it's not against the rules of not discussing hacking) How would i be able to do that?

So simply speaking, a password does absolutely nothing?

No, I highly doubt anything in BIOS can disable a password. I've never seen it.

If you do not have a program that specifically locks you out after 'n' tries, it is probably Vista's security doing that. And you should be able to log back in after a 'time-out.'

Really Greg? Then why did coolguy suggest it can be done?

The lockout was 30 minutes. I have not found a way to disable the password in the BIOS. The "other user" account is still here???

    Actually, it's disappeared....

So I think it was related to the Account Lockout Policy. It was kind of weird, because the place where there should have been a User Account Picture was transparent (not blank, transparent).

I don't think it was a virus or a hacker, because I'm connected to a WPA secured network, I have COMODO Firewall Pro, and AVG Anti-virus.
