    ok so here's the story

i was plannning to install windows xp professional today and then something messed up during the installation process so i had to quit (my C Drive was wiped out). since sony doesnt provide any original installation cds for xp i had no choice but to install Vista on my computer.

now when i start up the computer it gives me 3 boot options

    earlier version of windows
    Windows Vista
Windows XP Professional SETUP Files <---i want to remove this crap!!!

how do i delete the crap that was left behind from installing windows xp PRO and the so called "dual boot screen"? (that was unintentional)

Update pics of my problem: (It even selects Microsoft Windows XP PRofessional as default when I boot up my computer!!!)

EasyBCD is your friend for all things Vista bootloader related. It can easily delete all the bootloader options you don't want (or add more if you ever need to for some reason). I used it with success for a tri-boot of Vista, Vista SP1, and MS-DOS. Documentation is online should you need it, but getting rid of an entry is relatively straightforward.

    hi there,

i cant find the removal of windows xp professional setup files option, i can only see Windows vista and earlier version of windows in start and recovery.

i want to remove the third option from the bootup screen but it is no where to be found when i log into windows vista.

Windows XP Professional Setup Files is what i want to remove.

I use VistaBootPro(download link on bottom of page) to edit, backup, and create. You can easily remove any obsolete options with this.

For most people it's not as simple, as with using an app like VistaBootPro.

    & it's BCDEDIT.exe now

Did Vista Pro detect your Bootloader correctly? Without any error message?
If it did, I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Did you go to THIS PART and delete the proper line and pressing apply settings afterwards?

    Edit: Link works now.
