    HELP ASAP!!! When installing xp... No hardrive found?!?!

    ok, well my lappy is in my sig, i am folowing this guide, apcmag.com/5485/dualbooting_vista_and_xp i am up to the step where i install xp. when i go to install though, it says that there are no harddrives. i believe my harddrive is sata. WHAT DO I DO?!?!? i really want to install xp, HELP ASAP!!!

    meh...is yours sata? I remember soem issue with sata drives but can't remember what.

    You need to disable Native SATA Support in the BIOS.

    Then you should have no problem installing XP.

    if your copy of xp doesn't have sp2, you will have to somehow slipstream sata drivers so that your hd works (assuming you have a sata hd...)

    Many user report that disabling "AHCI"(it has to do with SATA drives) in the BIOS allowed them to install XP but it probably wont be good for Vista.


    You could always try to get a USB floppy drive and the SATA drivers from Intel or slitpstream them on your XP disk(there are guides online) as ejl mentioned.

    yes its sata, no i cant disable it, yes, i just tried slipstreaming with nlite, none of the above worked

    Try slipstreaming again. Don't try slipping in all the drivers to set up your computer (although you should be able to do so). Only slip in the important one - the sata controller. I presume you're using nLite. Add the driver (XP, 32 bit if installing a 32 bit OS), and burn the ISO. Should work.
