    Hi,
I'm trying to uninstall Office 97.
I found the CD, which is necessary, apparently, but when I run the setup option, I receive the following message:
    "Unable to Open D:\ACMSETUP.stf"
At that point the setup program exits.
    Any advice?
I just want that **** program gone.

Could I try a straight delete, rather than an uninstall, or is that bad for the HD?

    Thanks a bunch,
    Baumer

doing a delete will just leave all the files that are located out of install directory on your HDD. Just to make sure that your CD is not the problem, locate that file that cannot be opened and try to copy it to your desktop. If it works then this is a software issue.

What operating system are you running?

Another question: is D: actually your CD drive? I was just googling your problem and it seems that some people needed to have the install files (the ones on the CD) on the exact same drive as the one they installed from. So wondering if this might be your problem?

I was going to suggest re-installing then trying to remove it.

From what I understood is happeing with this specific problem, which seems not to be an isolated case, is that the whole setup won't even run. So CD would autorun, and then the error pops up.

Or is that not what is happening with you Baumer?

I am using norton cleansweep for difficult uninstalls. Unfortunately, it's no longer available as a standalone product but part of Norton Systemworks. I think there are quite a few other uninstallers available. Just google uninstaller and read some reviews to find one that can tackle Office.

That's right...autorun begins, then freezes almost immediately...eventually the error message comes up.
And yes, D is the actual drive. Could the problem be that I am using a different Office 97 CD than the one I originally installed?

    Thanks

That is possible, they might be different releases or something, not sure! Can you get your hands on the orginal one you installed from.
