I just downloaded a documentary film for our film subject since I couldn't find an original disc in almost all cd shops. After I downloaded it, I tried playing it (.avi) in both windows media player and vlc. It displayed a notice that I need an x3 player to play, what does this mean? I tried go the website but it's paid. Is this some sort of a scam?

Sounds a bit fishy. Avi's should play on nearly anything, unless some crazy codec was used, but that's unlikely. I definitely wouldn't go downloading some random player. I suppose you could give KMPlayer a try, but if it won't work on VLC, it might not on KMP either.

My hunch is true. X3 players are nothing but scams, they just want your money. Thanks again for the precaution

Let's just say that if vlc won't play it, usually, it won't play on anything else at all. MPC-HC + K-lite codec pack is another possibility.

Yeah, I second to that. VLC really does play anything and everything you throw at it
HELP: where can I download a free x3 player for downloaded movies?
