Ive just received my new HP DV6t and im very happy with it so far. One thing that I find quite annoying is that when I adjust the volume it brings up a visual showing what level the volume is at. This would be ok but when something full screen like a game is open, it takes me back to the desktop and so I then have to alt-tab back in to the game. Is there a way to make it that this visual does not appear?

uninstall HP on screen display from installed programs , i am not sure of the exact name but its quite near
-
cannot see any programs with a name similar to this.
can anyone else help? is there an option somewhere to turn it off? -
It's the quicktouch software. I believe that when you do a fresh install of the quicktouch driver, it will ask you the components you want to install, and usually I uncheck the display stuff and only install the driver. I think if you click to remove it, it should ask you what you want to remove.

tried installing and uninstalling quicktouch software. didnt help.
if it helps here is a screen shot of the volume bar im talking about.

Hmm, that's weird. It's been about 6 months since I've owned a Home HP notebook (they don't ship this [IMO] crappy OSD software with the business ones), but it never looked like that.
This is what the quicktouch volume control GUI should look like, unless HP suddenly changed the interface (I googled for it and this was the first picture that popped up in the results):
The fact that you uninstalled the software and yours looks nothing like it probably means it's not the quicktouch software. You may want to check out if you have any other volume OSD software installed. Many times when I've walked through Fry's or Best Buy, I've noticed that they've got the Microsoft Intellitype software installed. -
I wouldn't know if they changed it since this is my first HP, but the above post is accurate. However, mine has never worked right (even after a clean install) so I uninstalled the whole kit and kaboodle.

i had the problem, and i uninstalled HP Wireless Assistant and now it's goner than gone.

Here's the solution from HP to removing the on-screen volume display. I believe it's only for 64 bit systems though. Go to: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-62436-1&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=3744198&os=2100&lang=en
