I did a custome install (not upgrade) to Windows 7 Ultimate and my PC has been overheating every since. I notice it starts to run particularly hotter whenever I have my battery in my PC while the power cord is connected.

Prior to this install of Windows 7 I did not have this issue. I have installed all avaliable drivers and such from both the Windows Update site as well has through HP site and it's still an issue.

Is there anyone out there that can offer me any suggestions on what I can do to correct this. This is insane. My PC use to be so very quite that you wouldn't even know it was on. Now, it's just gone haywire and hot.

    I also have a 64bit Processor.

    - Open the task manager and make sure your CPU usage is under 5%
    - Ensure to close ALL application in the task manager.. even you instant message and Anti-Virus software and see if it helps.
    - Ensure that the device manager see all your device correctly
    - Uninstall, restart your computer, use CCleaner (free) to clean your registry and install your motherboard chipset drivers (also go see the chipset manufacture of the motherboard website for even newer drivers)
    - Do the same for the video card.

HP website says you have an Nvidia graphic card. Use this tool NvGPUPro, and click on "PowerMizer Settings", and ensure that PowerMizer feature is turn ON for your video card. PowerMizer is your graphic card power management technology. The tool allows you to enable/disable it and tweak it, without hacking the drivers in any shape and form.

sounds like you need a BIOS update not a w7 problem. My Laptop has been running cooler and quiter ever since. W7 is more effcient. It cycles each Core down to 0% to cool faster.

This is not exclusive to Nvidia... nearly ALL hardware manufacture have very crappy OS drivers when a new Windows is released. They are called 2st generation drivers. In fact most drivers hardware manufacture have, including Nvdia 185 series, were just drivers patch up for Win7 BETA (before RC), same for Intel drivers for the most part.

Within a few months from now, we should pretty much have good drivers avilible. We can see Nvidia working on the 195 series for mobile platform. I am sure tat once it's release as official, they will be descent drivers.

Try Goodbytes suggestions. I upgraded my HDX16 and haven't had any problems.
