I have had this laptop for quite awhile. I put a new hard drive in a few months ago. New battery in the past year or two. New charger also. It will not charge unless there is weight or force holding the plug at an angle into the port of the laptop, or firmly held into the port. Any ideas what could fix this?

Also, once it does charge, the run time is very short, maybe an hour or a lil more. With the laptop turned on, no matter what you do with force or not, the charger will not charge. It will only charge with the laptop turned off.

The boot up is very slow (1-3 minutes, sometimes not at all, causing me to manually reboot), along with internet explorer actually displaying, I would guess 15-45 seconds to load with cable internet connection. Once explorer loads, browsing the web is somewhat faster, but still lengthy compared to other laptops I have had on the same connection.

Thanks in advance for any help

I don't have this particular model, but the HP's I've seen with power problems almost always need the power plug re-soldered. It usually means taking apart the machine to get to the motherboard itself.

Charging is probably also a power plug problem, though run time is almost certainly the battery losing capacity. Laptop batteries really lose capacity quickly.

In terms of boot up and explorer, I would suggest a clean reinstall (use an original copy of Windows without any of the HP bloatware)

Is this resolder something I can do, or is it tiny wire solder? I have done solder as small as 18 gauge.

If not, can most computer repair shops take care of this?

I thought about doing a clean install again, but it wasn't that long ago, that I did one. I guess it never hurts though. Thanks for your help!

You can do the re-soldering yourself. Trick is always to get a good service manual and taking the comp apart. HP might have the guide on its support site. Most computers can also do this for you, but review the cost first.

    cheers ...

thank you! I will take a search for the guide. I assume its pretty straight forward, what needs to be soldered, once taken apart?
