Is it possible.............. for my HP pavilion dv5-1004ax to change it to a 64bit operating system to take advantage of the full 4GB ram when windows 7 comes out and also this will be doing a clean install with a bigger hard drive probably a 500GB and then I will use the old one externally as a portable in a case.
I would want to use the ultimate version but due to the prices of ultimate probably will stick to home premium in the windows 7 when it's avaliable.
I will also probably get a computer shop/serviceman do all the work if it's too hard!> that I will have to do some more research on I've been told youtube has good tutorials for those sorts of things

Here is some basic info below please visit the website specific in details etc if need be-

You will have no issue moving to 64 Bits OS - your system is 64 Bits ready. All the drivers should still apply.

    cheers ...

Installing a clean version of Windows by yourself is quite easy for the most part.
And yes, you can switch to a 64 bit OS without issues (provided your CPU is 64bit compliant ... which it is).

In any event ... if you are presently using Vista Home Premium 32bit on your laptop and want to switch to x64, then you can simply get a hold of a installation dvd that contains Vista Home Premium 64bit and use your OEM key to activate it upon installation.
However, if you want to wait for Windows 7 x64 instead, you will have to wait until Jan 2010 to my recollection.

It's not hard to do really.
Just make sure to grab the drivers for the x64 OS for your lappie before you actually install the OS in question.
The HP website has x64 drivers so you are fine in that retrospect.

Yep, that's the official retail release date. We are anxiously awaiting the RTM, which will hopefully be available in July to Technet and MSDN subscribers.
