This is a solution I would like to share since I had trouble finding information on the internet about this specific issue:

I purchased an HP dv6t-7000 QE over the summer and upgraded to windows 8 (which I like, aside from some odd quirks, such as reduced right click functionality when looking through list of apps). Anyway, the issue is that the HP listed synaptics driver broke my trackpad!!! By that I mean, it caused odd cursor jump when I tried to do the single finger tap, which worked great in Windows 7, and which I had become addicted to. So for about 1.5 months I have given up on even trying to use it. I read an article discussing the windows 8 version of the dv6 that also mentioned cursor jump. IT IS ANNOYING! it caused me to not be able to use my laptop in as flexible of a way anymore. Then on a whim, I downloaded a driver for windows 8/7/vista/xp from the synaptics site:

    Drivers | Synaptics

It all appears to be basically the same as the one on the HP site (which you automatically get in the update), except there is NO CURSOR JUMP. I re-enabled my 4 finger flick for ALT+TAB functionality, and reverse scrolling which I just happened to perfer (double click on two-finger scrolling in synaptics settings for options, this also goes for all other guestures, they can be fine tuned to your liking). I also love the show desktop guesture (4 fingers down) which hides/unhides programs. The back/forward swipes in browser are GREAT!! Win8 with a trackpad to support the improved guesture support is great and speeds up my computing on a laptop (I'm still not totally sold on traditional desktops with windows 8). I hope this simple insight can be of some use to someone. It's funny how simple it was, I guess I just thought HP would have an optimized version of the driver, but this generic driver turned out to work much more smoothly. If you have a laptop with a synaptics trackpad and win8, GET THIS DRIVER and play around with the custimizations. Using KB + guestures is much better than mouse in my opinion and I am thrilled to have my trackpad working properly again without losing guestures/reverse scrolling.

    Regards!
