I strongly recommend anyone new to the Vista OS, and anyone who wants to maximize performance and fully customize Vista to suit your needs, to buy this book. You won't regret it.
-
You have to buy that, why not just use the free threads already here on the site like the one flamenko made?
-
I agree with Calvin, why spend money when there are hundreds of articles about optimizing Vista on the Internet?
-
I agree with them the hacks that flamenko made is Good and costless.
If you want, try to see my advance topics Hidden...secrets here in notebook review forum.
also, these topics.

Thank you all. Before reading other than the first thread I was going to suggest this falls into the spam category.
If that thread had anything useful except telling someone how to buy it, I wouldn't classify it as such.
No insult to the author as I believe he may have done it in good will, but this is my opinion. The thread should be closed as it opens a door on the site that could become a huge disservice. -
LOL @ buying anything (software-related) nowadays.
-
Well with all due respect to other contributions to the site. This book has much more in depth hacks and tweaks that you can't find from just one source. Sure you can search the net for various hacks and tweaks, but this is about bringing all of those together in one book.
It's not just about tweaks either. It really gives you a complete understanding of the Vista OS. I'm just trying to get the word out because this book has helped me immensely. -
Spam?! Are you kidding. Getting the word out on a great book is spam? Sounds to me like you don't want any competition. -
Can I ask a favour? Open the book up and pm me any tweaks that would be great for all that we haven't covered...or anything else as it is a 'Tips and Tweaks' article.
That would be great for all!!!!
EDIT: I saw the above reply after posting above. It falls directly into the category of spam; sorry but true. It is a reference to a site where one gains no assistance before paying. It may be agreat book!!!
As for competition, that article gets hit over a thousand times a day. I gain nothing from it. Its free!!! We, as in many here on the site, did a great job on creating which is now known as the best free tweaking article available on the net. Google to see!!!
To put it into context....what if I now started a thread that told everybody to buy this, and then someone else that and so on. I think it would have been great if you would have thrown that in as a post to my or any other tweaking thread because then it falls into a topic which has been created and serves the purpose to assist without purchase.
I'm sorry I offended you. I will stand by my challenge though for you to PM me some 'unknown supertweaks or tips' to post to the site. -
What is this. A totalitarian website? Why can't other sources be used to help people out? It's just a book, and I'm recommending people buy it because it has helped me tremendously. I'm not trying to undermine all your hard work, flamenko. You should check it out.
-
Edited with my full view..see post above.
-
I think Flamenko has done an awesome job on being so nice to organize all the tweaks in such an easy to follow guide for Vista users of all levels.
-
yeah i agree... put the spam back in the can!
-
Looking at the index it looks a long old book, I dont have time to read all that. I would hope vista is not that bad where I would have to do over 200 pages of tweaks myself!

In any case, for those who are interested in a free alternative (which I personally find to be excellent) I have linked to a post below which I actually just posted a few minutes ago:

I thought this may have been spam myself but i didn't say anything because i didn't know exactly if it was or not. I just think why should you pay for something like this when you can get something better that is free? Like IE7 and Firefox.

ScuderiaConchiglia NBR Vaio Team Curmudgeon
I just read through the table of contents and I didn't find any thing partcularly earth shaking. Everything I saw is easily found for free on the internet. The website in the link is strictly an advertisement for the book. Not sure I'd qualify that as spam. And maybe the OP did find the book helpful. But it's not something I would ever recommend to folks when as I said all the info is available for free here and on any number of other sources on the web.

Guys...cool it down! The original poster's main purpose was to recommend a book that he found helpful. If you don't agree with him, then so be it, but calling it "spam" is too far.
I understand those that say there's tons of free guides and articles online regarding Vista tweaks already, but at the same time, doesn't mean you guys need to "tear him apart" like that. Many newspapers and magazines are fully online (and usually free) as well; many people still buy paper editions of newspapers and magazines.
.
And Googling "Vista Tweaks"...the tweaking article on NBR wasn't on the front page of the Google search... -
I removed the 'Tip Jar' of my own volition after being granted permission to put it back in the end. I was asked to put it there by more than one reader who contributed which shocked the heck out of me. I wasn't the first to do this and I understood it rubbed some the wrong way after the fact. I did it after the request and doing a search to see whom had done it previously.
With respect to the tweaks, it was when I wrote above.. -
If I came across some book or article I thought would help others I would be inclined to make a post about it. As such I'd say the OP indirectly is useful.
Personally I prefer books and hard copies of guides/reference manuals etc as it saves the hassle of flipping between windows. Also it means you don't have to sit in front of your computer if you want to read up on something. (yeah I know you can print from a browser but forums don't print out very well)
Perhaps NBR forums need a book review section?
*edit I stuck the book review/recommendation idea on the site suggestions section in case anyone wants to add their thoughts on it.
