hi guys, just would like to tell you guys a story about a "little" problem i had on the weekend, and ask any of you guys for input why the problem occured?

i have a dell m1330, intel core [email protected], 3 gigs ram running on vista ultimate 32bit.

if too long, important bits in bold

on friday evening, halfway through cooking dinner i went into the room next door and turned my laptop on and returned to the kitchen to kick a well deserved friday nite chow. i was in a great mood, as it was friday and i was going to do some relaxing for the next 2.5 days before the dreaded monday came around again. Little did i know, it was about to turn into an absolute ****ing nightmare
I looked through the doorway at my lappy and saw that windows had loaded, a few minutes later i came back and saw that the computer had REBOOTED itself??
at this moment i just thought, ok, watever...
when windows reloaded again, the integrated keyboard, touchpad n ****, and dedicated media keys wasnt working??
i restarted the computer and then the black screen came up sagin that windows couldnt load:
file was a system 32-tfsysmon.sys with error code 0xc0000098, a vital system file was corrupted or missing?

needless to say, i shaat myself.

After a quick change of undies , i restarted the computer and pressed f8 repeatedly to bring it back to 5 days ago, and windows loaded just fine...PHEW...i was relieved
abotu 5 minutes later, everyones favourite computer event happens:
    BSOD??!!
    my comptuer was absolutely farked...
another quick change of the undies later and some more f8 action later, i decided to wipe everythings and clean install..which is where i am now

    my questions are:
why did this happen?it was workign perfectly fine the day before this happened?
could i have done anything else besides clean install?
is threatfire a **** program?has anyone had this happen before?
as some ppl advised on this forum, i decided to have avira and threatfire runnign together, wat are some other options as i am very wary of ****efire now

    thoughts??
    thanks

ok the only think really i can suggest here is you could have tried using the windows repair feature that would have saved you doing a clean install, why it happened i have no idea im affraid computers as you probably know do strange things by themselves some of the time.

At least one other person reports having a corrupted Vista install after a recent TF update. Not sure if it's related though.
I've been running Avira and TF, also on Ultimate32, for months without problems.
An alternative could be to use a firewall with HIPS like Comodo or Online Armor, with the HIPS you set the rules of what's allowed or not instead of TF.
Be aware that when TF gives a warning about a legit program you're running, it can give a 'deny and quarantine' option.
If you choose to chuck out a critical component, like when TF warns about a TF driver, you can wreck a program easily.
    Cheers.

+1 on Baserk. I've used TF too, on Ult.32b., without any issues. But I am hearing this issue first time now, so I will be watching this. For updates, I have set the settings in TF to notify me about available updates and not install anything by itself whenever it feels like.
