My new laptop just arrived today but, as I wanted to save some money, I chose to not have an OS preinstalled and do so myself when it arrived. However, I didn't realise that my Father had bought an Upgrade disc for Windows 7 and not the full retail version. I then attempted to install an old version of Vista on my new unit so I could use this upgrade only to find that the copy of Vista we had was an OEM and thus non-transferrable to my new laptop.
I now have 2 half installed OS on my rig - I will be receiving a proper version of Windows 7 tomorrow and plan on doing a clean install with that when it arrives.
My question is, what should I do about the 2 half installed OS on my laptop? Will the clean install I perform tomorrow overwrite them? Or should I get rid of them beforehand? And if so, how would I do that as I have never used a computer without some sort of Windows on it before.
Any help would be much appreciated - turns out that after 2 months on these forums, I'm pretty knowledgable about hardware but know jack all about software...

I'm not sure about the full version. But on the upgrade version all you have to do is select custom install to see the partitions on the drive. Then you can delete both of them and format it as one drive by clicking on advanced options.

In setup you can wipe the two previous partitions by simply deleting them. Then create a new partition and select it. -

1. Install Windows 7 without an upgrade key.
2. Boot into Windows 7 and start the install disc : custom install into the same or different partition.
3. Erase windows.old (if same) or delete the different partition
4. You have a clean install. Google for help.
