I installed the 64 bit version of Windows on my new T510 that had been shipped with the 32 bit version. As I installed the software the battery died and the installation wasn't completed. I ran the installation once again and now I see there is only 66 GB of free space on my new 128 GB SSD. Windows takes up 13.5 GB and 'other' files take up 15 GB. Additionally there is a Lenovo Recovery drive that takes up about 21.5 GB. Is this normal? I read about doing a secure erase but the recovery CDs I have did not give me that option. What should I do? Thanks in advance.

Do you want to wipe the drive completely and start with a fresh install?
-
Yes. Will this alter the SSD's performance?
-
I have done it about 5 times due to Viruses and what not and I have not noticed any drop in performance.
DBAN Download | Darik's Boot And Nuke
I use boot and nuke. -
You shouldn't really use DBAN on an SSD, unless there's some specific routine that you use.
-
Thank you. I'll do it right now.
-
I use the "Quick" deletion process. Should take about 30 mins.
namaiki: Could you elaborate? -
What do you recommend namaiki?
-
Just a quick format (re-partition). In short, I don't think you should be wasting write cycles on your SSD.
-
How do you do a quick format?
-
Don't forget to delete both partitions and make a new partition of the whole drive.

How do I delete the file thundernet?
-
Go computer>right click on C: drive>open>and you will see that one of the files is windows.old, right click it and press delete. It might take a couple of minutes to delete it if it is very large.
P.S If you want some of your old files you can take it out of windows.old of course before you delete it. -
Thank to everyone for all their help.

man I came in here so excited to hear about someone building a PC with 128GB ram
-
lol same, 128gb ram zomg
-
Hard drives are NOT RAM!
-
Well sometimes they are. There was some SATA device a few years ago that had DIMMs and functioned as a hard disk, it had a battery backup in case power was lost.
Wonder what ever happened with that. I guess SSDs kinda drank their milkshake.
Half the 128 GB of RAM in one day
