This relates somewhat to notebook software, however it is really more of just a mobile software post.
I'm sure many of you are familiar with hamachi, Applied Network's brainchild recently acquired by LogMeIn, which allow you to set up virtual networks across the internet. This baby has saved me countless trips to my parents' house when I combine it with VNC to create a secure VPN solution that handles firewalls with a breeze. It did everything I could ask for, short of being portable. I don't have a laptop, so I'm forced to carry my life around with me on a 4gb flash drive.
Well, thanks to the folks at Geekoh (yeah, I've never heard of them either) my dream has come true. They've taken Hamachi and tweaked it to run from a removable drive! Their project is called buri (formerly portable hamachi) and it works great! It's pretty stable, but it's a bit of an annoyance to set up. Once you get past setup though it's a dream.
I dunno if anyone will find this useful, but I love it and thought I'd share it with y'all.
