    more problems.

after finally (or so i thought) sorting all the problems out from this post http://forum.notebookreview.com/win...ec-true-suite-fingerprint-reader-problem.html

i had a full day of use yesterday until i went to shut down last night and it hung for ages on closing screen and then bsod.
    CUSTOM ERROR NDIS 6.20 driver
and also driver power state failure

    gave up and fell asleep.

today it booted fine but had no connection to internet. i ran the usual checks and noticed my shortcut fn + f11/F12 werent working so tried updating the driver. that almost loaded then hang at final step. so had to hard turn off.
booted and ran bt wifi setup to check connection which also hang. hard shut off again. wifi is working fine on my other computer.
decided another system restore would be the only option. this took about 10 minutes to finally show shutting down and since then its hung with the loading circle for over 20 minutes. the only option was a hard shut down. turned back on and restore fail. so trying one last time.

looks like my only option now is to reinstall windows and start afresh.
only problem with this is ive got over 120gb games loaded and loads of monitoring software. my internet is with british telecom and ive downgraded to 40gb a month download as on a normal moths use im lucky to use 15gb so i thought its pointless throwing money at them. upgrading again to unlimited comes with a years contract so im stuck.

any ideas what i can try before i do a clean install.

    edit

just done another system restore and it hung again. hard turn off and rebooted and this time it said system restore was successful and its all back to normal again.
wifi loaded straight away and im up and running.

    untill the next time

I'm sure you looked up that error message Mr DJ. But for those that don't know, that message seems to point to a network driver that is installed by Win 7. But wow, is it complicated. It also is involved in power management and other system stuff. Maybe that driver gets corrupted somehow in your system? I don't have the faintest idea on how to fix that one. Sure hope you don't have to completely reinstall your OS and other programs just to fix that driver.

Now, no more installing software :)

J/K what I love to do is to make a system image before any of these major installs or updates. I have been bitten more than once by system restore just not cutting it to get the system back. While 98% of the time or better system restore does the job a good old image is great when all else fails.
