    Hi,

My Hard disk is 500GB 5400rpm. I have Vista 64-bit. May I know which of the following is the most logical (fastest) way of partition:

    1) Keep C minimum, to only Windows, drivers, etc (perhaps 40GB), install all other programs in partition D, and all other documents, medias, etc in Partition E.

    2) Install all programs in C (allocate 80GB now, for other possible programs) and free all other spaces for medias and documents (D)

    3) Everything in C (just one partition).

Thanks for your recommendations. I am new and don't have a lot of knowledge in computer. Also, as when I was doing the clean installation, I can only create 2 partitions (C and D). May I know how I can create another one if you guys think option 1 is the best? Can I do it in Vista?

    Thanks again.

I split my HDD into 3 partitions. One for the OS, programs, and documents; one for music; and one for temp files. I do this for backup purposes. My C:\ drive is about 20gb and backing this up isn't a big deal. OTOH my music partition has ~60gb of data that is redundant on several of my other computers (not worried about losing it on one drive), so this does not need to be regularly archived,

    My partitions:

    320 GB total, 5,400 RPM

About 70 GB to Windows and programs (I try to minimize this)
About 220 GB to media, i.e. videos, movies, pictures, documents, desktop, MSN chat logs, etc.
    About 1 GB for homework

    160GB

    65 for Vista
    33 for files
another 25 for files (couldn't fuse them both together due to the sectors)
33 for linux/urgent xp installation needed (again, can't make it smaller without loosing space due to sectors)
    800mb swap for linux.

I will probably backup everything and redo my partition table soon.
