I travelled recently with my company issued laptop to a client location for couple of months who also issued me another laptop for the work I'm supposed to do for them. I wanted to know if I swap hard disk in my company laptop with a personal one, can i use it as personal laptop for time being ?

I don't want to buy another laptop as I already have a personal laptop lying at home and would not be using company laptop for some months. Don't want to use companies laptop as is, as it is slow due to constant antivirus, encryption and slow hdd and there might be some tracking software too.
If i just get a cheap ssd now, replace it and use it for couple of months and then swap back companies hdd before returning it would they know?

It really depends on your IT support for the work laptop in my opinion. I know many places I've worked would be totally fine with me doing that. I also know places that I've worked (like the Army) would string me up by my bootlaces if I did that. I hated carrying two laptops with me when I traveled for customers but it's just something I did. Really just be sure it's not going to jeopardize your employment at the very least.

I think the only thing they would know is that you didn't use the laptop much when you give it back.
