I did a clean install of W10 on my NP9772 in order to set up my RAID array for mass storage. Everything went fine with that, until it came time to run Windows Update. It was a little slow to check for updates, which is not unusual, and it started to download. After a while, the download would get to a certain percentage, then stop for no reason. I let it sit for close to an hour and the meter only went up another 2 percentage points.
I did a fresh reinstall using media with build 1511 on it. My USB drive had the original build of W10 on it. I got that set up, and Windows Update has now been running for the last 10 minutes and is still in the "checking" phase.
I fired up my Yoga 2 Pro, which has W8.1. It only had 2 optional updates available, totaling less than 25 MB. I was able to download those, but it occurred at a snail's pace.
I don't seem to have trouble accessing anything else online, from either machine. Is anyone else having issues?

After a couple modem reboots, everything appears to be fine. Don't know what was going on but I did notice that Comcast finally came out and buried the cable that runs from the box in the back yard to our house. Perhaps when they moved it, something got put out of joint. In any case, Windows Update ran as normal and installed everything quickly.
The only good thing to come out of this was getting my W10 install media updated to 1511, which saved a ton of time downloading through Windows Update.

an OS upgrade from Build 10240 to Build 10586 is not a simple Windows Update, it is a full OS installation, just like it was from 8 to 8.1. Proof is, after a Windows build was updated from 10240 to 10586 you would see a Windows.old directory in the root of C: that contains the previous OS/Build so great that you have the latest installation media as those kind of large updates can carry issues along with them. That's why when a new major milestone build is released, I format and start fresh again by downloading the latest Windows Download Tool or from here if you want the latest ISO only. -

Has Windows Update been really slow/unresponsive for anyone else today?
