if you want to, yes. but be warned, drivers can be a huge hazzle, and chances are big that the xp cd doesn't know sata, and thus can't even see the hdd to install on.
is it worth it? i'd say no. -
If you wan to install Windows XP,
Back-up or burn the BUILD-IN vista to a recovery CD(included windows vista and drivers/application for vista). So, you can install your VISTA again if you don't like XP.
After install XP,
you would need to find those drivers and application installers for your laptop because Vista drivers/application installers are not same as XP.
Sometime, you can't find those installers and eventually can't install or use the driver.
I do not recommend XP because Windows 7 is going to release soon.
XP seems to be ancient after all.
Now, you have your vista and just let it be. Vista is better than XP.
However, some people disagreed. -
Installing XP is not a good choice. After XP installation, you will find difficulties as devepermen mentioned. -
No guys but the thing is I made a list of game that I want to buy and 80% can run on both and 20% only run on xp so I see no reason why I want to use vista. Also you say burn the vista on to cd can you tell me more about that??? And after that what do I do....delete all the vista or what???? I know about the driver bit where you need to download all the running program thingiwe but just the back up bit and after backup xp installing bit I need to know more....thank-you!

are you SURE they only run on xp? or are they just too old to mentoin vista, but work well on it (maybe with some tweaking).
-
yeah i am quite sure as it says only for xp but not even mentioned a word about vista so teach me!!! ><

if a game is from 2004, then it WON'T mentoin vista, as vista didn't exist then. that does NOT mean it does not work on vista.
tell the game names, or google around yourself to find out if it works on vista. most old apps work on vista. only dos based 16bit or so apps don't work. it really depends, but most should work. -
ok ok I checked the game on the website by typing "game name" system requirement and it says only the requirement for xp but didn't say anything about vista.......Ok I made a list of 12 game I want and 3 of them only has been mentioned for xp which is The organe box, warcraft 3 frozen throne and command and conquer tiberium war.....I mean in thw website they only said about xp not vista.....you have to tell me becuase this 3 game is kinda one of the most wanted game by me!!!!

orange box works on vista, i have it. warcraft 3 should work, looks like there's a patch for it. tiberium war should work, too. had some problems with nvidia drivers but should be fixed by now.

It also depends on what the particular hardware is - some OEMs will provide XP-compatible drivers much more readily than other OEMs will.
-
don't get xp FTW

Just install the games on Vista and see if they work. Microsoft products have remarkable backwards-compatibility, and you can always try using the Compatibility Modes as well. If you run into problems, post more specific details - there isn't really any reason why older games that can run on XP can't also run on Vista.
Have a little question......
