So I was hesitant about doing a clean install because I'd lose all my programs (I keep most media files on an external).. but I had an idea,

    Say I had two partitions

one is 150gb (main partition) and the other is 50gb (unused)

If the 150gb partition had my Vista install.. maybe I could get it down to 50gb of actual "stuff", use Acronis True Image Home to make an image of it, copy that to an external harddrive, then somehow copy it to that unused 50gb partition, then run a clean install of Win7 onto the main 150gb partition.. Thus having a clean Win7 as it should be, and my old Vista OS for programs I still need while transitioning to just Win7, will that work?

Another thing is, I'm not clear how to do a clean install with Win7 upgrade?
