*** update- i have upgraded to Zone Alarm 7, its okay i guess, dont know why they drastically changed the logo, anyways one question: how to i disable the "Scan with ZoneAlarm anti-virus" in the right-click context menu?

If so, is it worth it?
Have you experienced problems, as ive been hearing?

Ive been holding off because i dont want any frustrations that come with it

Definitely go for the update. The new version uses Kaspersky's Anti-virus engine, which is a lot better than Za's

Using it on 2 computers for about a week and no problems so far. Its interface has had a revamp and the systray icon has been changed.

    I say go for it.

I upgraded on my desktop plus my Asus G1 laptop and did a fresh install on my wife’s desktop with Zonealarm ISS 7.0.337.000 and haven’t had the first problem.

I was really expecting some problems on my desktop after reading the posts on the Zonealarm Forum since I run a bunch of crap on it and visit a lot of suspect sites. Everything went smoothly.

I'm still using Windows Firewall...can't really bear to sacrifice the resources to run ZA. Will ZA 7 takes up less memory resources than it's pervious versions? If it does, i'm considering to switch to ZA 7.

zlclient process takes 7512K of memory.

I tried Comodo Firewall for a few weeks and thought it was way more annoying than Zonealarm.

Has anyone heard of Jetico's personal firewall? It great once you get it configured the way you want. I've just been using it for 3 days now so it remain to be seen just how great.

I use Comodo Personal Firewall (for about a month now, switching from ZoneAlarm), and it definitely still gives a lot of pop-up messages for various programs and processes that subsided once I had configured ZoneAlarm.

Perhaps since version 7 is a substantial revamp, it's time to switch back...

Are all your peers running Mac and making fun of you?

Like most security software, most of them are just bloatware that use up resources. If you're behind hardware router, have XP's built in firewall enabled, and use a little common sense, I don't see how you can be infected by a virus.

anybody got a problem with ZAS and debug in VS.NET 2005?
the ASP.NET debug is not working because ZAS always block localhost cookies/etc, so i can't test properly any local websites. i tried to put localhost as full permitted/trusted website, but it doesn't work.

any workaround? on them forum nobody ever reply about this problem

I used ZA7 for a while, but it kept bugging out on me - VSMON this and VSMON that. Plus, it would often lock up my computer at startup for minutes at a time. Got rid of it, downloaded AVG (firewall + av), and it's been smooth sailing since.

A virus is the least of my concerns. I find that even mainstream websites sometimes have javascript or other concerns that I would just as soon block. Likewise, Microsoft itself has a number of programs that I routinely block from having outgoing internet access.

XP's firewall does not block outgoing and Vista's, while it can block outgoing, is a completely manual process to configure to do so.

I ran ZoneAlarm Security Suite V7 on XP and am still waiting for the full suite for Vista, so I'm running alternatives to ZA there.
