Hi, I just purchased a gateway 6619mx (its the model here in Mexico) and I realized that when I plug a headphone the volume really sucks! with normal speakers the volume sound good but I tried with several Headphones and the volume is very low, is there a program to increase the volume? I leveled all the volume (normal and WAVE) in windows but the sound doesn't improve!

I will apreciatte your help :D

    No replies yet huh?
Well, I hope this isn't the result of all those silly law suits that blame manufacturers like (Apple) for making products where the volume can be set loud enough to damage your hearing..

I don't know what to say.. Have you tried another pair of headphones?
Do those headphones have a volume adjustment on it?
Have you tried hooking up external speakers to the laptop? On my Compaq V4000t, I need to set the volume pretty loud when I hook up external speakers.. But then I must set the volume to around 5-10% when using the same port for headphones or it will blast my ears out ..
Of course, I set my wave balance to MAX just like you did, and I use the volume control buttons above the keyboard to adjust the main volume control...

If the software shows that the volume is to the max, in both the application, and on the volume control next to the clock, then I guess it sounds more like a hardware problem.

The headphones you use actually make a difference on how low the volume is. If your headphones were relatively inexpensive, that probably means the headphones will be less efficient than a more expensive more.

Moreover, sometimes there are problems with the computer itself too, I would recommend finding something else to plug into the headphone jack to test the volume of sound coming out of there... If the jack isn't the problem, then the headphones are. If the jack is the problem, I would recommend purchasing one of those external USB sound cards, they're very inexpensive and very useful. Or if you have more money you could also purchase a Creative Audigy 2 ZS PCMIA sound card.
