So I was putting movies onto my USB flash drive to put into my xbox 360. I put 1 movie in, tested it on my xbox, and it worked perfectly.

So I went to put in a 2nd movie and the flash drive crashed on me. I'm like crap. So I shut down my computer and went to sleep. Then today I tried again. But I got an error message saying that the flash drive was "write protected". there's no switch on my flash drive to turn off the protection. I tried to reformat my flash drive but the "write protection" blocked it. Then I tried to open up some old word documents but they couldn't open.

Is my flash drive completely screwed? Is there any other way to WIPE EVERYTHING OFF. I want to wipe everything and start out new.

I should have just bought an HDMI cable to watch those movies... stupid me. Luckly I backed up the stuff on my USB flash drive.

1st make sure your flash drive does not have a mechanical lock switch. This is probably not your problem. Go to my computer and right click on your flash drive and select properties. There is also a software lock. I believe going into device manager or to my computer you can select properties and find this.

^^ If the above 2 suggestions do not work, try to format from another computer, or go the the manufacturers web site to see if they have a tool to do this. Can I guess it is a PNY of at least 8 GIG?

    follow the steps

1.Open a new note pad file.

    2.Copy this

    cd\
    reg add “HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies” /t Reg_dword /v

    WriteProtect /f /d 0

    3.save it as DISABLEWP.BAT

4.Then copy it to start up folder.

When you insert a pendrive it remove write protection. If it becomes.Or simply use any software which fix this kind of problem. You may try LONG PATH Tool.It may help you.Thanks.

Why not just use diskpart from an elevated command prompt to clean the drive, then create a new partition, format, and assign a drive letter?
