I received a warning message on Vista a couple hours ago saying that the data on my HD may be corrupted and it advised that I do a disk check. Well, I scheduled a disk check to happen the next time i boot the system. So I reboot the computer, and it boots normally! As if I didn't schedule the disk check. Does anyone have a solution to this? I need to check the disk.

I had the same problem once... what I did was boot off of my Vista DVD, then use the option that's included there to check my disk. Hope that works for you too.

Do you mean the memory check? Thats all I can find on the boot DVD.

That may have been it. I just remember scanning off of the boot DVD, sorry I can't be more specific right now.

    Thanks anyways, rep for you.

I heard there's a way to check your disk using a command prompt, is this true?

yeah.. press F8 on startup and choose command prompt. I think you type chkdisk.exe or something.

Alternatively, you can just use HDtune which is a dedicated HDD program

There is a way, if you type in "chkdsk" in the command prompt it will try to perform a disk scan. However, you may not be able to do it while the hard disk is in use (i.e. while you're booted into windows). That was the problem I had, which is why I used the OS disk to check the disk.
