Hi,
I'm really hoping that someone can help me out or point me to where I can get help.
I need to change the hard drive in my laptop as it is making strange noises and chkdsk is reporting lots of bad sectors. It still runs ok but I'm guessing from the noises it makes that its only a matter of time before failure.
I have the new drive in an external case and have been trying to copy to it using EaseUS Disk Copy Home, however that failed at 40% (this took nearly 24 hrs and had nearly 2000 read errors!
The laptop is a HP DV6 6024tx that came with Win 7 Home Premium bought in Australia, I am currently back in the UK, I also upgraded to Windows Ultimate whilst I was out there.
So my question is, is there any way I can complete the disk clone and if not how do I go about reinstalling windows from scratch as I dont have the original disks for win 7 home premium, it was already installed, I only have the upgrade disks (these state they are only for use in asia/pacific region, not sure if this matters, I did originally install it when I was out there)
If this is in the wrong place sorry or if you require anymore info let me know.
Thanks in advance

welcome to nbr
sounds like bad sectors are failing to transfer.
if the drive still runs and you need certain things from folders off it it might be worth just copying them to a memory stick.
then download magic jelly > KeyFinder | Magical Jelly Bean which will find all your keys from that drive.
then download windows from here > http://forum.notebookreview.com/win...-7-download-links-just-like-vista-before.html
hope that helps -
the only thing different worth noting from MrDJ, is that the windows key you retrieve with MagicJellyBean will not work with the windows 7 download you make a dvd with.
That key is the cd-key from the HP factory install--you need to use the key from the sticker on the bottom of your laptop -
^wont it. i didnt know that gerry as ive not had to download from nbr before.
glad i didnt need the sticker number as its all faded out on mine.
thanks for updating.
