    Hi guys,

I mistakenly deleted some registry keys while I was doing some cleaning with Comodo. I am not sure what they were but I only wanted to deleted some files and I did not realized the new version of comodo was doing both registry and file cleaning at the same time.

I rebooted and so far everything is working ok, but I do not like that I have no idea what I deleted. I tried to do a system restore and I was not able to do it, each time it failed, even in safe mode!

Is the system restore failing due to the registry change? Is there a way to repair the registry? or at least is there a way to know which registry is missing and if it is important? Should I reformat or can I live with missing registries if my system working properly.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Have you tried different restore points? If you don't have any evident problems, then you don't have a problem per se.

I have tried several restore points and none worked. I did it in safe mode to make sure the antivirus and firewall programs would not interfere but to no avail.

So I guess system restore does not work if you change the registry?

What kind of test should I do to make sure everything is working fine?

    Yes.
See above. You may never know if 'everything is working fine'. Next time back it up....

First thing I did but with this version you have to set up the save option for the log.

I do have an image made with macrium reflect, but it has been a while and I don't feel like going through the hassle of having to reinstall a bunch of things if it is working fine. I just want to make sure my system restore will work in the future at least.

Comodo probably just deleted some dead entries in your registry like its supposed to. Try running all your programs and usual stuff. If you get an error just reinstall it.

As for your system restore, you might wanna find out why its failing. System restore is supposed to roll back the registry too.

To back up your registry, go to run > regedit > File > Export

Doubt it did anything serious if your computer's workign and it was handled by Comodo. It's not like you just randomly deleted something, it was probably unused file extensions.

My HP machine would not start Windows becouse of bad Broadcom BT driver, so it only started recovery console. I didn't have a backup yet, since it was only the second day i was using my new computer. I had three choices -- Windows system restore to previous state, HP factory recovery or clean Windows install. First i tried Windows system restore to six previous points, but all of them failed because of messed up registry. I decided to do a hp factory recovery.

It seems that for some reason Windows system restore won't work if registry is changed or corrupt? But i agree it's unlikely that Comodo did delete something important if your system is starting up and running properly.

So, this system restore business is puzzling me. I made a manual restore point. then did a windows update, which make a restore point too. So I was able to do a restore to my manual point but not to anything since the registry change so I am really confused.

    Well,
I finally found one thing that was not working: I could not see my other computer on the network anymore. Tried everything and nothing worked. SO I used the image I made. Everything back to normal.
Macrium was my life saver on this one. Not sure why restore did not work but oh well!
Thanks again for your help guys!
