I have a compaq 6720s laptop which came with Vista.

I dont like vista, and wanted to change to xp, so i bought a copy of xp professional, downloaded a sound driver, a chipset and graphic driver.

Now my cd will at least give me the option of installing it - (which it didnt before i downloaded the drivers..)

BUT... when i select install, a message comes up saying 'this program is blocked due to compatibility issues' and that it can't continue because the version of xp is older than the version of Vista already on the laptop..

    Isn't it my choice?!!!

Help me... this has eaten my Sunday.. i am sad.... :(

You need to wipe the disc first, it sounds like you are trying to 'upgrade'.

You are booting from the CD, not running it while in Vista, correct?

Incorrect, but that is what he DOES need to do.
Also, your old PSP is about to get 64GB internal solid state storage... as soon as the parts come :)

Another thing I have seen quite often on here...

If your HDD is a Sata drive you either need to supply sata drivers or slipstream them into your XP intalation... I believe there is a program called vLite nLite that does that...

I've never tried it by the way...

vLite is for Vista, nLite is for XP.
Not all SATA drives require this, only ones supporting AHCI. Which is most, if not all SATA 3 drives.
