    I have just bought Mitac 8258D barebone laptop platform (Intel 945PM, Mobility Radeon x1600) with Intel T5500, 2GB PQI DDR2/667 RAM, HDD Samsung 100GB. The problem is that I can't install any drivers in Windows XP. Whether I try to install ATi Catalyst, HD audio, Conexant modem and etc. I get one message - "compatible hardware not found". Howerver Intel chipset driver got through normally.
    What is more interesting, there are zero problems in Windows Vista. All hardware is found and every driver (from Driver CD or manufacturer site) is installed just fine.
    Any suggestions?

    hi, i tried to get new drivers onto brother's 8258D but we got the same result you just described here. Anyway after updating bios to 1.07 and updating chipset drivers to latest we managed to install the ATI drivers 7.6 but CCC couldn't start. So if you have any fix discovered please let me know!

    Try latest mobile catalyst from: http://ati.amd.com/online/mobilecatalyst/

    But where you got that bios update? I'm still using R1.03.. which seems ok.. but want to know what was added/corrected in newr versions and maby try them.

    CCC, I am pretty sure, requires .Net framework 2.0 to work---if that is not installed, CC will not start.

    As for the other issue of nothing installing, try this
    start > run, type
    devmgmt.msc
    <enter>

    Select all the devices with a yellow ! next to it, right click and uninstall.

    Now run your install routines with the drivers

    hi!
    I also have Mitac 8258D and I faced up with all those problems you mentioned. Now what i'm trying to do is to install drivers that I downloaded from http://mtc.mitacservice.com/MISC/M0100/F0130_1.aspx
    I chose drivers for win xp OS, however the chipset drivers was only for Windows Vista. Hopefully everything will work out (so far I installed only half of the drivers but verything was ok,now just waiting for the rest of files to download).

    By the way, when you connect some USB device does it work? I tried to conncect USB key and USB mouse but both of them didn't work. Any idea what might be wrong?

    by the way...mitac 8258D now releases CDs with drivers that are supported only in Windows Vista platform (see user manual).
