Help - Stuck on installation of Windows 10?

Hi AQll

I created a bootable USB with Win10 but i am stuck on the next stage where it asks -

'Where do you want to install windows'

I have only ever had one drive C:.....lol

Where do i put it, do i need to format or delete anything?

Am i selecting the correct step before i get to the partition screen bit?
I am selecting Custom:Install windows only (advanced).

Choose custom installation and delete all of the partitions of the drive and then choose to install on the clean drive which will recreate the Windows 10 Partitions and then it'll install.

 

It would not let delete them all, in fact i could only delete one.

It's all up/running now cheers.

Going through the 'Tweaks and Concerns' sticky on here now.

It's MUCH harder to navigate than Win7, can't find a thing..lol

Look through the initial section where I explain how to clean your current drive using the Diskpart /clean command

then hit refresh where you see the drive options and try

It's all installled now, just migrated all my Thunderbird emails across. Still going through the guide.
All my Cortana stuff is off/not installed.
I',m at the part where it states to disable Windows Defender Firewall as it's 'heavy', i notice szthe ' AV Comparative Antivirus Performance Test' link is dead??
Avast is recommended, i've always used Comodo.
Think i will put another post up in the correct section (same i presume) for a decent Firewall and Antivirus (i don't mind paying IF it is worth it.

Lemme sum it up for you from personal experience. The lightest, most secure, no bloatware, no BS Antivirus right now is VIPRE Antivirus. PERIOD.

 

I would stick with Eset Nod32 anti virus.

 

Strange you should be able to wipe all those drives clean and compound into one Drive only. Are you sure your doing it right? I've used W10 disc and USB and can wipe a drive clean to do a Full W10 install.

 

I have done several clean installs of Windows 10, I use a Linux Disk Wipe Program made by Peter Hyams its really fast, then install Windows 10 from a Win 10 image burned to dvd-- Windows 10 first-run setup experience, also known as OOBE (out-of-box-experience) is a pain yet gets done, there are few working on Closing OOBE out to install automatically without OOBE -- good for them. As to virus scanner get one with a firewall, I get Norton Free so I use it and have had no viruses.

I just downloaded the Win10 file from Windows, created a bootable USB, tried eleting all partitions (it would only let ime do one), it's kelp the Backup and HP one.

Anyway its on the primary drive now and running fine after all the updates have been applied, i have not disabled Wn Defender yet and i'm still undecided on what to get?

Your laptop support 16Gb, yet 4 and 4 is more economical, later think about Nvme drive if you have that socket available.

I am in a somewhat similar situation. My old computer (Vaio VGN-NR290E) has Windows 7. And I just bought a beautiful unused Vaio SVE17 with Windows 10. But have decided I want to keep that computer clean from the Internet (avoiding all the viruses, and bugs from upgrades, that gradually damage the computer more and more over time), and only use it offline, for movies, graphics and other work.

Can I just copy Windows 10 from the Vaio SVE17, load it in a USB, and then install it in my old computer? If so, how do I roughly go about this? Where in the Vaio SVE17 do I find the whole of Windows 10 for download?

So what happens if I continue using Windows 7 next year, and coming years? Will Microsoft do their uttermost to stop it, put out so many bugs on the Internet that Windows 7 grinds to a stop?

 

Hello, not impossible, but even if it boots it may give a ton of interesting hours trying to figure a fine collection of small or big problems. So 'bad idea' means there are ways to do it that will result in a stable, working environement without trouble (assuming your pc hardware supports w10), with an activated w10. Between 2 very close to 100% similar pc's there are good chances of a os transfer working good (have done this, not copying os, but restoring disk images (macrium reflect), and with key tied to hardware, it all activates fine).

Otherwise, an inplace upgrade (after a disk image backup of the 7 install) from 7 to 10, and look for it to activate\working ok using the w7 key, then later make a fresh, clean install of w10. Or remove the 7 hd and do a fresh 10 install using another hd, and see if it works\activates\got all needed drivers\is stable etc.

But, yes, go ahead trying your copy plan, nothing will catch fire, experimentation is nice :O)

7 will work for eternity (to be used as long as one's programs and pc work), only os fixes\security updates stops, not 7 itself. Probably could make w95 work if that is what one wants :O)

Thanks 6730b. Before the Windows 7 I had Windows Vista. But I needed to upgrade to W7, because the newer Internet Explorer and Chrome versions, needed for some Internet transactions, Vista could not handle.
