Hi, I'm already part of the Vista customer program and have recieved the email from microsoft. However, I have never installed or upgraded to a new OS before. Can someone tell me step by step how to install vista on a seperate partition for free (if it's possible). Please describe each step in detail, as I'm a real newbie in this area. If I install vista on the same partition, will I be able to recover Windows XP MCE after the Beta period is over?
    Thanks

. personally recommending installing vista in its own partition!
. get urself gparted (a self booted cd for partition) - free
    http://gparted.sourceforge.net/livecd.php

. re-partition ur hard drive, leaving the xp mce partition alone, shrink it so that u can have about 22 gigo for vista
. reboot under cp to make sure that everything is ok (it should be, just double-checking)
. update/check bios that cd drive is the first boot option
. that's it - boot ur system up with Vista CD in the drive, just follow the instruction
. other than the sound driver, vista should have everything for u
. if u r a gamer, do not expect much from vista - other than that, enjoy

if you are not technically apt at doing things like this, you shouldn't.
