Hi Everyone,
I could really do with some with my laptop please.
I installed service pack 3 and other windows updates and when I restarted it the laptop wouldn't boot up, the BSOD keeps coming up with:
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
STOP: 0x0000000A (ox3f3f3f3f,0x00000002,0x00000000,0x804f9c6b)
It wont even let me boot into safe mode!
Any help would be great.
Thanks in advance.
Bob

if you cannot get in with xp, the best you can do is to do a repair installation with the an xp sp2 cd, then reapply update.
That specific stop error is almost always a driver issue, which makes it sound like you had an old driver that was not compatible with sp3 -
Thanks gerry, I don't have the CD anymore, any tricks to boot into windows?
-
Would need to know what resources you have available...other computer (obviously, but what kind)? Model of original problem laptop?
In some cases, this error can be caused by a corrupt file system, so running a chkdsk on it could restore the latop.
Was this computer one with a system restore partition?
So far, all you've provided is "I have a problem" - based on that all I can give you is the most basic of solutions -
Hi Sorry for the lack of info.
I also have an Advent laptop to help boot the broken one, the broken one is a packard bell, about 5 years old.
I've tried running chkdsk but that didn't help.
No restore partition.
Anymore info needed? -
SO you can load to safe mode with command prompt (to run chkdsk)?
Below the stop message inpost 1, there is sometimes a specific driver file mentioned...is that the case here? -
No I can't get to safe mode (any of them), I used an XP CD from a friend to use the repair option (gives you command prompt).
There was no message below the STOP line.
Isn't there a program that you put use on a CD that will scan your comp at boot and fix it? (Silly question?)
Thanks -
Is your friend's XP cd of the same type as your OS
(ie, his cd is an XP Home, OEM Edition, your laptop was loaded with XP Home, OEM edition)
If so, runa repair installation.... -
you are going to need to analyze the memory dump that windows generates when it BSODs and even then it will be pretty hard to recover as you are saying that it won't even boot into safe mode.
It's most likely a drive issue (usually a video card or a sound card) but since you can't seem to uninstall it it's gonna be hard to handle.
I'd suggest backing up your data and reinstalling windows. -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Is this a dell? I had a D520 with integrated Intel graphics that had that same "system stop" error and it turned out to be a problem with the DVMT settings in the BIOS being corrupted and beyond repair without a new motherboard.
