    Hey Everyone,

So I've run into a problem. My sister has a Dell D810 that she thought had a virus on it. It had Symantec Antivirus on it but I figured I would stick Nod32 on it just to make sure everything was good and dandy.
After I installed the program, the computer is so bogged down. When we restarted the computer, the computer stopped working. It would get to the log in screen, and begin starting up but then freeze when the desktop showed up. The mouse moved and all but I think Explorer.exe screwed up somewhere. Anyways, CTRL+ALT+DEL worked, but the task manager didn't show up. So Pretty much nothing happened.
So I'm now in safe mode, restoring it back to before I installed the program.... I'm really hoping it works.... Is there any reason why it wouldn't?
Why do you think the program screwed the computer? Does Symantec and Nod32 on the same system cause big problems?
I'm kinda nervous about this, and hope I didn't screw anything up. I don't think she had a virus... The one thing to note is that "my computer" tended to lag for a few minutes before loading... it was strange. But I think that's another problem all together.

Please if you can help me out or provide me any tips... it would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

Update: System restore... seemed to work... but now after login. Nothing loads.... There is just the desktop picture. That is all? I can run task manager now... so that seems to be working.... But nothing else? There is a desktop picture... It doesn't appear frozen... just nothing is there. AHHH! Please help.....

Wait..... it loaded something.... It loaded the screen telling me the system restore worked... now everything else is loading....

    1) With you having such a crappy program such as Norton, I wouldn't be surprised if you actually had a virus and not known about it. How can you really say she doesn't have a virus?

    2) I know this is a stupid question, but for heaven's sake, did you uninstall Norton before installing NOD32?? The Norton uninstall never really works, I usually use the Norton Removal Tool 2009 to uninstall Norton, it totally wipes Norton off.

    3) Just use the above Norton uninstaller, then clean the registry using RegScrubVistaXP, then run a malware scan using Malware Antibytes AntiMalware or SuperAntiSpyware, then install the latest version of NOD32 and apply the blackspear settings, then tell me your result.

haha. I just took out NOD32... and left it as is... I didn't want to mess around too much. It seems to work the way it did before. I take it NOD32 is better than the Symantec Corporate Antivirus?

Off-course it is, if you don't trust me, just google NOD32 review and see how it compares to Norton and others.

Norton has been known to slowdown any system with its high resource usage, and at the same time, low detection rate. Norton Gamer Edition imporoved the system resources issue, but it is still questionable about its detection rate.

Still, nothing even comes close to NOD32 when it comes to system resources / virus detection. Its only competitos is Kasperky Antivirus. but then Kaspersky has a higher system resource usage.

Yea... I have Nod32 on my personal computer.

My sister got the Corporate edition somehow. At least it doesn't bog down the system like the home editions. Anyways... I think I managed to fix the issues. System seems to be running properly now. I think i might have fixed the slow "my computer" thing too by disabling WIA. (found that on another forum) Anyways... Thanks anyways. :)

Probably the best idea at this point. Since you didn't uninstall the Symantec before you installed the NOD32, at startup you most likely had an intense "battle" between the two A/V programs, with each competing to scan files (and having to wait if the other got to the file first and locked it), and then each scanner interfering with the other's processes on the basis that those processes might belong to a virus.
