    Hello,

I bought a Sony Optiarc BC-5500a blu ray player a while ago and recently it has started to fail every time it writes a DVD DL, even at the lowest write speed. I read online that this may be a firmware issue, so I want to update the firmware. I found this page that contains the newest firmware, but i comes with a warning that it may be unsafe to update if the drive is OEM. Mine is an hp OEM drive. I can't find any firmware updates on hp's web site for it though so I can't tell if its the latest firmware or not.

Is there firmware on hp's site that I'm not finding due to their terrible search function? If not, do you think it would damage my drive to update anyway?

    Thanks,

    Dan

That's the same firmware as on the site I linked to. Did it come from hp?
