I will probably purchase the HP dv6775us this weekend from Circuitcity.

It will be an in store purchase so I am sure I will be offered all the warranties and "firedog" tech help. I am still iffy on a warranty but I am sure I will not buy any firedog optimisingcustomization configurations. :D I don't want some unknown tech opening my first laptop box and messing with it anyway. So I am wondering about any good ideas on taking out the bloatware. Should I also remove the hp help stuff? I don't want to mess up the laptop removing drivers etc. But I don't want to lose the benefits of 3 gb ram because 89 programs are running in the background.

I built my last 2 desktops so I have not had the pleasure experiencing free trials and computer company helper programs for sometime now. As a new laptop owner I am cautious, don't want to brick it the first day. In my experience with friends laptops, installations and drivers are a bit different here.

As I get familiar with the drivers etc. I do plan on eventually upgrading to vista ultimate 64 bit and possibly duel boot to Linux.

Thanks for any tips or information.

I'm sure others will chime in, but off the bat try CCleaner and Decrapifier. Also, check out the Vista Tweaks thread.

Try Winbubble in Branding your Windows Vista, Customize, Optimize and Secure your PC.
    Here, oopss... 32-Bit only. :)

I also Recommend the Tweaks by Flamenko(5/5)... I hope he will add my app too...

Posting from my new HP dv 6775us right now!!!! Man I am lost in Vista and it is clunky so far. Don't take it as a bad thin just 1.5 hours into it.

Right out of the box 1.00 to 1.20 of my 3 gig Ram being used.....LOL!

Got to make those recovery disk and take some of this stuff off. Should I do a clean install? or can I fix this with add and remove programs?

Another question, once i make recovery disks should I delete the recovery partition? Also do you guys (HP Users) get rid of the HP Total care advisor? If so how?

For specific HP questions, you might want to check the HP specific board.

    Follow this guide. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=120228

Vista will always use half your RAM when running idle, whether you have 1 GB, or 1 TB. Unused RAM is wasted RAM.

You can delete your recovery partition, but unless you need those GBs of space, you might as well keep it just in case.

Good Point. I don't rally need it now but in the future i was planning a duel boot with Linux so i was kicking around the Idea.

Some apps provived with the laptop might be useful to you. Just play with them a little and uninstall if you don't need them.
I never check how much RAM and CPU is used during idle. Got sufficient RAM and CPU to go around. :)
