Hello again, I`m on a race to find more freebies .
An ex of mine has a blog and there`s this guy who keeps pestering her and posting a lot of bad stuff and spam on her blog address..
Thing is , she can`t do anything against that since she doesn`t know what address this guy is using.
Can she use some software to track him down and ban his IP from her blog ?
-
That all depends on what kind of host and blogging software she has, as well as where the guy is posting from...blocking an AOL user is like blocking the plague with cheese cloth
-
better to just re create the blog on several different blog sights, and not publicize it too much, and leave the spamming fool to keep attacking the now-defunct site.

Report the guy? Hm sorry I'm not into blogging so I don't know much.
-
What kind of blog template is she using?
-
She`s using blogspot.com ...
-
Blogspot has limited ways of stopping pests
This is what I would do
Under SETTINGS > COMMENTS
Change COMMENTS MODERATION to ALWAYS
He will still post, but they will not appear unless the blog owner clears them. Eventually he will get tired of posting comments when they do not appear and others comments do (she will have to clear other's comments as well). -

Oh ,I know that. But I was wondering if it`s possible to also track him down
-
you mean, like track him down to his house and beat his face in?
no -
Sounds like y'all need to get onto Dr. Phil.
-
LOL... you want to find his IP address and do terrible things to him, eh?
-
-
Sadly, blogspot doesn't give you that kind of control--I'm sure google records it, though.
But getting it presents a problem.
I've had many times over the years where I was willing to buy a plane ticket and drive to someone's house, but the best I can do is track people to a city/region when I have the IP....
The worst part is when someone is an AOL user---there have been times I have been tempted to ban 18,000,000 AOL users just to get one toad.
Then there was another time when Apolo Ohno won the 500 meter short track in the 2006 Olympics when I had to ban the entire country of South Korea because folks there were trying to flood a sports forum I was running when they didn't like the results....geez -
Well, the least I`d want is to know from where he`s posting, city, or country, anything
-
Well, no ideas?
-
Not with your current setup.
Blogspot doesn't have the ability to do what you want. Maybe if you report it to Blogspot they will check the server logs and block him, but if you go with something like Blogspot, you cannot expect full-service capabilities.
Help again, I need a special software :D
